The Kanban view in Zenkit looks just like any other Kanban tool. In Zenkit however, a list in Kanban actually represents a label in a label field. Here's how it all works:

Labels and list headers

When you first create a new collection, it will open to Kanban view with a 'Stage' field containing the labels 'To Do', 'In Progress' and 'Done'. This label field and it's labels are used to create the lists in Kanban view. To create a new list click the "Add Stage" button. Type in the name of your list (aka another label in the 'Stage' field), then hit Enter.

When you create a new item under one of those headers, or move it from one list to another, that label is applied to the item.

Items in the 'To-Do' list will have the label 'To-Do' in the 'Stage' field. If you create a new list called 'To Verify', items in that list will have the 'To Verify' label in the 'Stage' field. You can create multiple label fields in your collection and group your Kanban views by these fields. For example, in addition to the 'Stage' field, you could create 'Urgency', 'Priority', and 'Department', and add the relevant labels to each.

Creating items in Kanban view

You can also hover over the bottom of a list you’d like to add an item to and the "Add Item…" button will appear.

Moving items in Kanban view

To move an item within a list, just drag and drop it into the position you want to see it:

Alternatively you can hover over the item, click on the vertical "..." icon to open the quick actions menu, then click "Change Position".

Moving items between Kanban lists (labels) is just as simple. You can drag and drop items across lists:

Or you can simply apply a different label to an item and it will move to the right list accordingly:

Reordering lists

If you prefer to see your lists in a different order (for example, if you'd like to see the 'Done' list first because you want to see how far your project has come), you can easily reorder the lists. Just click & hold the list header to drag and drop the entire list to the place you'd prefer.

Please note: If you reorder Kanban lists, every member of the collection will see them in that way.

Changing list headers

In Zenkit, any label or member field can be used as Kanban list headers to group your items. You may have set up label fields to show progress (to do, doing, done) and priority (high, medium, low). You can easily switch between the two, or any other label or member field you create. Click on the Kanban icon at the top right, then click 'Edit’ to open the view options.

Click on "Vertical Grouping", then select the label field you’d like from the menu.

Sorting Kanban lists

You can sort the items in your Kanban lists by any field in your collection. To do so, click on the view menu, then on "Edit". Under 'Sort Order' click 'Sort by' to pick the field to sort by. Once you've picked a field, you can then choose whether the sort should be ascending or descending.

The "Manual (Default)" option is the initial sort order, determined by dragging and dropping items in the lists.

Using Swimlanes

In Kanban view, you can choose to group your items by labels vertically and horizontally, like a matrix.

Click on the Kanban icon at the top-right then click "Edit" next to "Kanban" to open the view options. Click on "Horizontal Grouping" and select the Member or the Label field you’d like to group by. For example, you could group by Stage vs. Priority, or Member vs. Stage. To return to normal Kanban view, just return to the the view options menu and select "None" in the horizontal grouping menu.
