Pages

When you create a new page, you'll have a blank slate before you, either titled "New Page" or with the title you gave it, depending on how it was created.

You can change the title by clicking on it and then typing as you normally would. Changing the page title will also automatically update it's title anywhere else its linked within your notebook.

To add text to your note, simply hit enter after you're done editing the title, or click anywhere in the blank space below the title to start typing. Unlike some note-taking apps, note in Hypernotes are written primarily in plain text, although you can use Markdown formatting if you like.

Each line of text is accompanied by a bullet point that disappears after you start a new line, and will only appear on hover. This marks the line as a block.

Blocks

A block is a simple line of text (or an image, or anything else) that appears behind one of these bullet points. Blocks can be indented under other blocks using the Tab key. This creates a hierarchical structure on your page. To reverse the indentation, use Shift + Tab. The example below shows blocks on three levels:

Another way to indent blocks or move them up or down your page is to click and hold the bullet point to drag and drop it somewhere else.

To hide the blocks indented under another block, click the small arrow button that appears to the left of the bullet point when you hover over the block. (On mobile, this arrow is always shown.)

A block can also be opened up like a new page by clicking on the bullet point. The text contained in the block now appears as the title of the page, and all blocks nested under it are shown on the page.

Referencing Blocks

Blocks can also be referenced directly from one note into another with the use of the typed shortcut (()). Referencing a block this way is an excellent way to re-use parts of your notes without having to duplicate them with manual copy and paste. Referenced blocks look just like normal text, except they're highlighted blue and work as a link.

Turning a block into a page

You can turn a block into a page by clicking the bullet icon to open the block as it's own page, then clicking on the ... icon in the top right hand corner and choosing "Convert block to page".

This will immediately cause the block to open as a new page, and to be removed from the page on which it was originally written. Any references made to that block will automatically update to link to the page instead. Pages on which the block was referenced will appear in the "Mentioned in" section at the bottom of the new page.

Mentions

Pages can be linked with one another through references. For example, in the image above, the word "referenced" is a mention, as well as the referenced block at the bottom. When the page you have open is referenced by other pages, you will find a list of these references as "mentions" at the bottom of your page. There are two types: Mentions and Unlinked Mentions, and you can navigate to pages that mention your currently open page from here.

Page tools and actions

At the top of each page you'll see a series of icons, each of which performs a special page-specific function.

Tasks

As well as notebook tasks, each page can have specific tasks related to them. The task menu here allows you to add new tasks, and access tasks that have already been created, including tasks created inline.

You'll be able to see tasks that have already been completed under the "Done" section, and you can hide these simply by clicking "Done".

To open a task, just click it in this menu. You can also mark tasks as complete by clicking the blue circle next to each task title.

Comments

You can comment on a page by clicking the speech bubble icon. Comments are arranged like chats (and can be connected via the Zenkit Suite with Zenchat).

To add a comment, simply click into the "Add comment..." section. You can also record voice notes by clicking or tapping the microphone icon. If you click the + icon, you can send files, add a drawing, or even add a link to another note or item from another Zenkit product.

Favorites

The star icon enables you to mark the page as a favorite. Pages marked as favorites appear in the "Favorites" section in the navigation panel for easy access wherever you are in the app:

Simply click on the star on a page again to un-favorite it.

Page actions

If you click the ... icon, you'll open a menu of actions you can take with the page.

Share link will copy the link to the page to your clipboard so that you can easily send the note to another member of your notebook, or include a link to the page in a separate notebook in your account, for example.

Focus in Graph will open the graph view, with the node that refers to the page selected and only pages directly connected with it through references shown (high level of focus).

Schedule will cause the note to appear in your "Daily" page on the scheduled date. You can update the date it's scheduled to appear on by clicking the calendar icon to the very left of the page tools. Click "Clear date" from this calendar to remove it from the schedule.

Duplicate will duplicate the page and all the links within it, but it won't duplicate tasks.

Archive sends the page to the notebook archive.

Previous and next pages

The quickest way to navigate between pages is to use the arrow icons. This will move you from page to page in chronological order based on when they were created.
